Casa Möbius: Ernesto Gómez Gallardo’s Geometric Masterpiece
Tucked away in Mexico City’s San Jerónimo neighborhood lies an architectural gem that blurs the boundaries between photography, geometry, and space. Completed in 1978, Casa Möbius served as a private retreat and creative studio for the renowned Mexican architect Ernesto Gómez Gallardo. To this day, the building captivates with its radical, sculptural clarity.
Gallardo—a polymath of Mexican Modernism—translated the mathematical principle of the Möbius strip (an endless loop) directly into concrete. Inside, living and working areas flow seamlessly into one another. The atmosphere is defined by a striking triangular coffered ceiling of exposed concrete that extends across every angle, creating endless lines and unique perspectives for the eye.
The interplay of raw materials and strategically placed skylights creates a dynamic dance of light and shadow throughout the day. This timeless architecture constantly reinvents its forms, making Casa Möbius the perfect subject for a sophisticated visual exploration.

“It is a mania of mine to arrive at the simple—and the opportunity to build, on the basis of words, something that is not necessarily physical.”“…una manía mía de llegar a lo sencillo y como la oportunidad de construir, a base de palabras, algo no necesariamente físico.”— Ernesto Gómez Gallardo
